“I Don’t Know”: DSA Member Angie Nixon Can’t Say Whether She’s a Socialist in Florida Senate Race

Florida Democratic Senate nominee Angie Nixon struggled to say whether she is a socialist or a capitalist during an interview with Politico’s Dasha Burns, drawing sharp criticism from Republican Sen. Ashley Moody’s campaign as the race entered its final week.

According to Fox News, Burns confronted Nixon about her membership in the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), noting that she had previously identified herself as a capitalist despite joining the socialist organization. When Burns pressed her to explain how she personally identifies, the Jacksonville Democrat repeatedly expressed uncertainty.

“I don’t know. I don’t know. Like, I don’t know,” Nixon said on Politico’s “The Conversation.”

Instead, Nixon said she identifies as “a Black woman who was a former single mom” who wants to make sure no one has to struggle the way she did. Critics say she seems to view socialism as simply social programs and helping people.

Moody campaign spokesperson Cameron Gambini blasted the answer in a statement to Fox News Digital, saying Nixon “voluntarily signed up” to be a member of the Democratic Socialists and is “clearly regretting letting her true colors shine.” Gambini also pointed to a separate controversy, saying Nixon had refused just a day earlier to call Cuba a dictatorship.

“Socialist Angie is a radical lunatic who will never step foot on the Senate floor,” Gambini said. “Case closed.”
