White House Crushes CNN's New Claims About Its Failure to Cover Trump Speech

CNN chose not to broadcast President Donald Trump’s prime-time address on election security live, a departure from the usual practice of major networks carrying such speeches in full. Instead, the network planned to summarize and frame the remarks through its own commentary. Some executives reportedly viewed airing the speech unfiltered as potentially risky.

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins defended the decision by claiming the White House had not complained about the lack of live coverage. She noted that the administration normally contacts the network with objections whenever it opts not to air presidential remarks in their entirety, but said no such feedback arrived this time.

That account was directly contradicted by White House Communications Director Steven Cheung. He stated that the administration had publicly criticized CNN through its rapid response channels on social media and had even spoken directly with network executives, calling the refusal to carry the speech “bullshit.” Cheung went further, labeling CNN “the enemy of the people.”

President Trump himself highlighted the media’s reluctance to air his words during the address. Collins’ comments also drew attention for acknowledging what critics describe as a recurring CNN practice of filtering or spinning Trump’s statements rather than presenting them live and unedited.

The White House response made clear that claims of no complaints were inaccurate and drew renewed scrutiny to the network’s coverage choices.
