Study: BLM Kills 15 Times More People Through Increased Crime
A recent study has found that the "defund the police" efforts led by Black Lives Matter have resulted in a significant rise in the number of crime victims losing their lives.
Following the violent BLM riots of 2020, data indicates a decrease in the instances of people being shot by law enforcement.
The "Defund the Police" movement, a central element of the BLM agenda, led to substantial budget cuts in police departments across various American cities.
These budget cuts and the prevailing anti-police sentiments have led to a notable decrease in the presence of police officers on the streets in America.
Consequently, the reduced police response to crimes has translated into a lower number of people being shot by police.
BLM was initiated approximately a decade ago, and during this period, around 200 fewer individuals have lost their lives in encounters with the police.
Despite BLM's claim of saving 200 lives, the critical question remains: "Has there been a reduction in deaths during police custody or pursuits?"
What have been the cascading effects of decreased police activity?
In essence, the decline in police shootings can be almost entirely attributed to reduced law enforcement engagement.
Contrary to the extreme claims of the most radical activists, police do not actively seek individuals to shoot daily; rather, shootings occur during perilous interactions, involving both civilians and law enforcement officers.
Since BLM gained global momentum following the George Floyd riots in 2020, there has been a significant shift in crime rates.
As policing activity dwindled, crime rates, particularly murders, surged dramatically.
The findings of this event study suggest that BLM riots prompted police departments to withdraw from public interactions.
This shift has led to an increase in crime and a decrease in police-related fatalities.
To be specific, over the five years following local BLM protests, property crime arrests decreased by about 12%, while reported murders increased by roughly 11.5%, resulting in over 3,000 additional homicides.
Furthermore, the clearance rate for property crimes experienced a steep drop of around 8%.
These statistics are not only concerning but also provide compelling evidence of a substantial reduction in police involvement.
In simpler terms, setting aside the significant decline in the overall quality of life for everyone, there has been a notable increase in the number of people losing their lives.
For every life "saved," 15 people died who would not have if BLM had not impacted our policing system negatively.
However, it is worth noting that the majority of the lives "saved" by BLM were individuals involved in criminal activities that posed a threat to others.
This exchange rate is quite significant.
For every life spared by reducing policing, 15 additional people were victims of non-police criminals.
Most of these victims were not engaged in activities that threatened the lives of others.
