Steve Bannon Proposes Aaron Rodgers As Potential Fetterman Challenger

Steve Bannon has suggested that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers should leave the football field behind and pursue a seat in the U.S. Senate. Speaking on his War Room show, the former Trump adviser encouraged the veteran signal-caller to challenge Democratic Senator John Fetterman in Pennsylvania—unless the incumbent decides to switch parties and join the Republicans.

Bannon warned Fetterman against continuing to straddle the political middle, stating that if the senator wants to become a Republican he should do so openly. Otherwise, he claimed, Rodgers would defeat him across the state. He went further by contrasting Rodgers with Senate Majority Leader John Thune, arguing that the quarterback would bring far more strength and effectiveness to the chamber than the current Republican leader, whom he criticized in strong personal terms.

A clip shared from the program highlighted enthusiastic crowd reactions to Rodgers at a Steelers training-camp practice at St. Vincent College, which Bannon described as a pure expression of working-class American support.

Fetterman has already shown independence from mainstream Democratic positions on issues such as immigration, according to reports. Rodgers, a four-time NFL Most Valuable Player who trails only Peyton Manning in career MVP awards, grew up in California but purchased a large home near Pittsburgh after joining the Steelers on a one-year contract in 2025. He later extended for another season and has indicated that 2026 will be his final year in the league. At age 42, he has also developed a notable political connection with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who considered him as a potential running mate during the 2024 presidential campaign. Rodgers has publicly opposed COVID-19 vaccination requirements and has aligned himself with the “Make America Healthy Again” movement.
